Good in Progress
Privacy policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026
This policy explains how Good in Progress handles information when you visit goodinprogress.org, nominate a story, or contact us.
Information you choose to share
If you contact us, we receive your email address, message, selected topic, and any name you provide. We use this information to respond and handle your request. Contact messages go to our email inbox; they are not automatically published or added to the story research queue.
If you nominate a story, we collect the story link, description, and any subject name you include. Your own name and email are optional and are used only to follow up on that nomination. Please do not include confidential information or sensitive personal details in either form.
Information collected when you visit
Our hosting and email providers process technical information needed to operate their services, such as IP addresses, browser information, request logs, and delivery records. To limit form abuse, our application uses hashed IP addresses rather than saving raw IP addresses in its form records.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall site usage, such as page visits, referring sites, device and browser types, and approximate location. This analytics service does not use third-party cookies and uses a short-lived identifier rather than tracking you across websites. Hosting security logs are separate from analytics.
The site serves its typefaces locally, so loading them does not send a font request to Google. Links to source articles and other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies.
How information is used and shared
We use information to answer messages, assess story nominations, research and publish stories, maintain the site, understand readership, and prevent abuse. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Sending a message or nomination does not subscribe you to marketing emails.
We use service providers to do this work: Vercel for hosting and analytics, Supabase for nomination storage, Resend and our email providers for correspondence, and Notion and cloud research services for editorial work. They receive the information needed for their part of the service. Processing may take place in the United States or other countries where these providers operate.
Story links, descriptions, and subject details may enter our editorial tools and AI-assisted research workflow. The dedicated fields for a nominator's name and email are excluded from that editorial handoff. Anything you put in the story description may still be part of the research, so keep private contact details out of it. Qualified story information may later appear in a published article.
We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect people, our site, or our legal rights.
How long information is kept
We keep contact correspondence for as long as needed to address the inquiry and related follow-up, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. A nominator's optional name and email are deleted from our nomination records after review. Story research and published material may be retained separately as part of our editorial record.
Service providers may retain delivery logs, security records, or backups under their own retention schedules. Deleting a record from our active systems does not necessarily remove those copies immediately.
Your choices and requests
You can browse without submitting a form, and you can leave optional fields blank. To ask about your information or request access, correction, or deletion, use our contact form. We may need to verify that the request is yours. Available rights and any exceptions depend on applicable law.
The site is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through our forms. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Updates and contact
We may update this policy as the site or our practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. For privacy questions, reach Good in Progress through our contact form.
